27th February saw London come together and pay homage to the late Suchitra Mitra at Hampstead Town Hall. It was in 1975 that she first performed in the same venue alongside Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. Exploring the way in which Rabindranath Tagore has influenced an artist’s life. This evening was led by Bisakha Sarker and Rishi Banerjee where they performed pieces from Gitanjali and Chandalika. Moksha’s production of ‘Shapmochon’ came to the Northwest. After touring London and Italy, Moksha showcased one the most exciting productions of Shapmochon outside of Kolkata. Moksha conceptualised a Tagore Festival, celebrating the works of the legend himself through music, dance, drama and poetry. With this in mind ‘The Tagore Festival 2008’ was launched in London at the Bhavan Centre in partnership with Baithak UK. It was a whole day event!
